Structural, heat-treatable and case-hardening steel
For machine components, shafts, brackets and base plates. Heat-treatable steels such as 42CrMo4 and C45 for more highly stressed parts, case-hardening steels such as 16MnCr5 for parts that receive a hard surface after machining.

Free-cutting steel
Short-chipping and particularly easy to machine — the first choice for turned parts in series from the bar feeder, where there are no special requirements for strength or weldability.

Tool steel
For fixtures, punches, mould inserts and wear parts. Machined in the soft-annealed condition; faces that must be accurate after hardening are ground.

Stainless steel
austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, duplex
For food, pharmaceutical and chemical engineering and anything in contact with water. Austenitic grades work-harden during machining and duplex is particularly tough — both require adapted cutting data and sharp tools. 1.4305 is the free-machining grade.
